CP Launches New Canoe Program
Cerebral Palsy Association of the North Country launched its pilot Canoe Program with three orientation sessions on April 24th. Participants learned the parts of the boat and were fitted with lifejackets and adaptive seating. The orientation was followed by a Water Safety Training Day at SUNY Potsdam's Merit Hall Pool on April 26nd. Participants practiced getting in and out of the boats and learned the basics of canoe safety and paddling.
There are currently 12 individuals enrolled in the program, and 6 more waiting to join. The participants are split up into three groups, and the program goal is for each group to take three trips this season. The first group is scheduled to take their first trip on May 16th. The program participants also plan to attend several local water sports events this summer.
